Just yesterday, Wired had an interesting interview with Brian Wansink, the director of the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell. Probably my favorite fact from the interview:

People end up serving themselves 25 percent more on a 12 inch plate than on a 10 inch plate. But if you ask them about it, they’ll deny that.
